Three Capes / Tasman Peninsula    December 2023

The Tasmanian Walking Company really delivered in spades

The Tasmanian Walking Company really delivered in spades and I have already recommended this experience to several others.

Our four boys gave us the Three Capes Walk as a Christmas present last year. My wife and I are regular hikers in Australia and overseas but this was a magnificent and very manageable experience even for me at 79. The trails are superbly maintained by the National Parks with duckboards in parts to protect the native vegetation and stone steps for the climbs. The glorious wildflowers were in utter profusion. The coastal scenery is dramatic and startlingly beautiful. The TWC lodges are elegant and comfortable - welcoming host, who hike in themselves carrying fresh vegetables, real beds, excellent meals with Tasmanian wines for dinner, showers (yes!), early morning bird song and the sounds of the sea. Even a great masseuse Sarah in the second lodge. The silent walk through a section of verdant rainforest was one of many highlights. Our friendly guides were strong and knowledgable - Dandy the group leader was deeply respectful of the Indigenous people whose lands we were walking on and who is one of those people who inspire confidence that she would handle any crisis well (not that we had any), and Shinai, a University of Tasmania graduate in botany who could identify plants and trees, who told great stories of convict days and went ahead to make morning tea on the trail. We saw echidnas and wallabies, someone else in the group saw a snake but not us. We had an interesting and diverse small group of fellow walkers whose company we enjoyed.

The Tasmanian Walking Company really delivered in spades and I have already recommended this experience to several others. The only thing for which I cannot credit TWC was the weather - we were blessed with four fine days and not a drop of rain. Thank you TWC and your outstanding people - Clinton our friendly driver, hosts/chefs Holly and John, guides Dandy and Shinai.
