Thank you so very much to our excellent leaders, Lucy and Peter, who made Bruny Island come alive for us as we trekked up and through forests and woodland ecosystems, as well as sandy foreshores.
Their commentary on cultural, natural and geological features of the region was ongoing, alerting us to features of the landscape we may otherwise have missed. They were also good and interesting people, and we shared many personal on-track conversations.
Always friendly, helpful and outgoing, Lucy and Peter facilitated smooth overall organisation of the daily activities. But they really overreached the scope of their job description in the presentation of outstanding locally sourced food after a full day of tour guiding. At all times, whatever we were doing, Lucy and Peter went out of their way to accommodate the tastes, abilities and personalities of all group members.
The walk lengths were manageable, giving time for unhurried rest stops for lunch and morning tea. Perfect times to take in the amazing landscape and congratulate ourselves on arriving there!
Of special significance to myself and Greg (celebrating our 51st wedding anniversary) was being at the bush camp for 2 nights. Well-appointed and very comfortable, it was a novel experience to enjoy a hot outdoor shower in the bush! And a true surprise when trotting off for a “wee at 3” in the morning I sighted the crystal clear expanse of the night sky and our Milky Way!
Certainly an unforgettable adventure on the Beautiful Bruny Island.
