Accessibility

At Tasmanian Walking Company, our goal is to help people connect with some of Australia's most remarkable landscapes through guided walking experiences.

Because our walks operate in remote locations and often utilise National Park tracks, all of our experiences require participants to be physically capable of walking across varying terrain over multiple days. We recognise that every guest has different needs, abilities and circumstances, and we encourage anyone with an accessibility requirement, disability, medical condition or other consideration that may impact participation to contact us before booking.

Our Reservations Team can provide detailed information about each walk, discuss participation requirements and help determine whether an experience is suitable for you.

Please contact our team on (03) 6392 2211 or enquiries@taswalkingco.com.au.

  • Preparing for your walk

To help ensure guests have an enjoyable and safe experience, all walkers complete a pre-departure questionnaire covering fitness, medical information, dietary requirements and other relevant considerations.

If additional information is required, our Guest Services team will contact you to discuss your circumstances and provide guidance on the most suitable options. In some cases, additional medical information or clearance may be required before departure.

Our aim is to work with you to understand your individual requirements and help you choose an experience you can enjoy safely and comfortably.

  • How we support guests

We regularly work with guests who have a range of individual requirements and considerations, including:

    • Dietary requirements
    • Food allergies and intolerances

    • Age-related considerations

    Understanding Fitness Levels

Fit and active means you exercise regularly and are comfortable walking for several hours on consecutive days over natural terrain.

Very fit and active means you regularly undertake longer walks or other endurance-based exercise and are comfortable walking consecutive days with sustained distances and varying terrain.

Athletic level of fitness means you are experienced in completing experiences that involve longer distances, greater elevation, more demanding terrain or extended days on track. Previous multi-day hiking experience may also be beneficial.

    Still Unsure?

If you're unsure whether a walk is suitable for your fitness level, mobility, medical circumstances or previous hiking experience, please contact our Reservations Team. We're happy to discuss the requirements of a particular walk and help you choose the experience that is right for you.

  • Medical Conditions

Many guests walk with us while managing medical conditions.

Because our experiences operate in remote locations, we encourage guests to share any relevant medical information during the booking process. This helps us understand individual requirements, discuss the demands of the walk and determine any additional information that may be needed before departure.

Having a medical condition does not automatically prevent participation. We assess each circumstance individually and, where possible, work with guests to identify the most suitable experience.

As our walks take place in remote environments where medical assistance may not be immediately available, some guests may be asked to provide additional medical information, a management plan or medical clearance before departure.

  • Age requirements

Minimum age requirements vary between walks and can be found on each individual walk page.

There is no upper age limit on Tasmanian Walking Company experiences.

To help ensure guests are appropriately prepared for the physical demands of their chosen walk, guests aged 70 years and over are required to provide a Medical Practitioner Sign-Off Form completed by their GP prior to departure.

  • Mobility and participation considerations

If you have a disability, injury, mobility consideration or other accessibility requirement that may affect your participation, we encourage you to speak with our Reservations Team before booking.

Depending on the walk and your circumstances, additional planning or participation requirements may be discussed as part of the booking process. In some situations, a different itinerary may be recommended to help ensure you have the best possible experience.

Hiking poles can assist with balance, stability and reducing impact on joints while walking on uneven terrain. If you have mobility considerations, previous injuries or would like advice on suitable equipment, please contact our Reservations Team before booking.

  • Pregnancy

If you are pregnant, or become pregnant before your departure date, we encourage you to contact our Reservations Team as early as possible.

Many of our walks take place in remote environments and involve multiple days of walking on uneven terrain, often with limited access to medical facilities. Because every pregnancy is different, suitability for participation should be discussed with your treating medical practitioner and our team before departure.

Where appropriate and safe to do so, we will work with you to determine whether your chosen walk remains suitable or whether an alternative experience may be a better fit.

  • Additional support available

Some guests may require additional support in order to participate safely.

Where appropriate, we may discuss options such as:

    • Alternative itineraries
    • Additional preparation prior to departure
    • Participation under specific conditions
    • Additional support arrangements where operationally feasible

Each request is assessed individually, taking into account guest safety, group safety and the operational requirements of the specific experience.

In some circumstances, we may determine that a particular walk is not suitable. Where possible, our team will recommend alternative experiences that may be a better fit.
