Cradle Mountain / Overland Track    March 2017

Walk review from Vitalijus Marinecas, Cradle Mountain / Overland Track

I just sat down to writing my short account of the Cradle Mountain Hut hike when I saw the story of Mr Rozenblatt who shared his experience of March 2017 trip and his photo of the track all covered by snow!

To tell the truth that was what we had feared most as everybody said the weather in Tasmania is changeable and unreliable at any time of the year. However, we were extremely lucky and during our March 2017 trip did not see any snow. On the contrary, we enjoyed 6 days of sunshine and very comfortable temperatures ranging from 10 degrees at night to 23 at daytime. I have to admit, though, that the water in the mountain streams and lakes was very chilly, probably about 12-14 degrees so besides our guides who took every opportunity to dip in the icy water it was only I who proved that Lithuania is the land of seamen and brave swimmers! Our group consisted of 10 people aged from 35 to 69 and of different nationalities. But our fantastic guides, Vito and Nick, to whom we are so very grateful for their abilities to organise and consolidate the group, to heal the wounds and scratches, to cook absolutely Michelin 3-star dinners and keep our spirits high notwithstanding difficulties, will be remembered for long. Thank you, guys! Thanks, Tasmanian Walking Co!
