Three Capes / Tasman Peninsula    February 2026

Walk review from Jane, Three Capes / Tasman Peninsula Tasmania

Our recent Three Capes Walk with the Tasmanian Walking Company was, without question, one of the most extraordinary experiences of our lives, and that is entirely due to the remarkable people who guided and hosted us.

From the very beginning, our guides, Mike and Sara, set the tone for an unforgettable journey along the breathtaking Three Capes Track. Their depth of knowledge about the landscape, wildlife, and history of the region was nothing short of exceptional. Every section of the trail came alive through their storytelling, from the dramatic cliffs and coastal ecosystems to the rich cultural and geological history of the area. They struck the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth, creating an atmosphere that was both reassuring and genuinely joyful.

Mike and Sara demonstrated extraordinary expertise and care throughout the walk. Their attention to safety, pacing, and individual needs never went unnoticed. They were constantly attuned to the group, offering encouragement, insight, and support exactly when it was needed. What truly set them apart, however, was how generously they shared their passion. It was clear they love what they do, and that enthusiasm elevated the experience from a beautiful hike to a deeply meaningful adventure. They went above and beyond in every sense, ensuring each guest felt included, capable, and inspired.

One of the most memorable aspects of the experience was the opportunity to truly connect with the landscape and step away from the busyness of everyday life. Our guides, Sara and Mike, were both outstanding, creating a warm, supportive and engaging atmosphere throughout the hike. Sara’s professionalism and enthusiasm helped keep the group energised and well cared for, while Mike was exceptional in the way he encouraged us to slow down, tune into our surroundings and experience the landscape more mindfully. Through his thoughtful insights and gentle guidance, he helped us appreciate the sights, sounds and rhythms of nature in a deeper way, making the Three Capes experience not just a physical journey but a restorative and memorable one.

We would also like to make special mention of Mike’s remarkable musical talent. As a professional singer and casual guitarist myself, I deeply appreciate both the desire and discipline required to truly deliver a performance. Mike possesses genuine talent as an entertainer and singer, and his skill as a guitarist was evident each evening during cocktail hour. His performances added yet another dimension to the experience, creating moments of connection, warmth, and celebration at the end of each day’s walk. It was clear that, just as he strives to deliver excellence as a guide, he carries that same commitment into his music. The only element that limited his performances was the quality of the guitar provided, which was showing its age with worn frets and diminished tone. In recognition of the additional joy and atmosphere Mike brings to guests through his music, it may be a wonderful gesture for the company to consider investing in a new guitar in consultation with him. Such a gesture would not only acknowledge his talent and generosity in sharing it but further elevate an already exceptional guest experience.

Equally deserving of the highest praise are Paige and Laney, the lodge chef/managers, who created an atmosphere of comfort and indulgence that felt almost magical after each day’s walk. The meals were simply outstanding! Beautifully prepared, thoughtfully curated, and showcasing Tasmania’s incredible produce in a way that was both refined and comforting. Every dish felt like a celebration of the region and given the remoteness of the locality, was creatively and exceptionally presented and created.

Beyond their culinary talents, Paige and Laney were gracious, attentive, and endlessly welcoming. The lodges felt warm, relaxed, and impeccably managed. Every detail had clearly been considered, yet it was delivered with such ease and authenticity that it never felt staged, only heartfelt. Their ability to create a space where guests could unwind, connect, and reflect on the day’s achievements added immeasurably to the experience.

Together, Mike, Sara, Paige, and Laney represent the Tasmanian Walking Company at its absolute best. Their professionalism, expertise, and genuine care for their guests exemplify what exceptional hospitality and guiding should be. They did far more than fulfil their roles. They created an experience that we will remember, cherish, and speak about for the rest of our lives.

We are deeply grateful for their dedication and talent. If this is the standard of the Tasmanian Walking Company, then it truly sets the benchmark for walking experiences anywhere in the world.
