A World-First Desert Journey
We're excited to announce our brand-new walk. Uluru-Kata Tjuta Signature Walk, a five-day fully guided journey developed in consultation with Anangu Traditional Owners.
Your walking shoes are covered in red dust, the vibrant hue clings to your soles, a reflection of the ancient land underfoot. As the sun casts a golden glow across the desert, you traverse lands that have been cared for and protected by countless generations of Anangu. After five days crossing desert landscape, you're standing at the base of Uluru, its towering red rock face looming above, a reminder of the incredible privilege and honour we have been granted by Anangu to spend time with them in their community, walk their lands, and connect with their living culture.
Welcome to Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa Signature Walk.

The Tasmanian Walking Company is excited to announce the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Signature Walk —a five-day, four-night guided walking experience that unites two geological icons, Kata Tjuta with Uluru. Set to begin operating in April 2026, Uluru-Kata Tjuta Signature Walk has been developed in partnership with the Anangu community and begins at the foot of the giant red domes of Kata Tjuta and arcs east over a 54-kilometre trail through storied landscapes, culminating at the base of Uluru. This walk is a world-first, offering guests the unique opportunity to stay overnight within the World-Heritage listed Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, while immersing themselves in the history and living Anangu culture.
A decade in the making
A near decade in the making, Uluru-Kata Tjuta Signature Walk was born from a life changing experience Tasmanian Walking Company co-owner, Brett Godfrey had in 2015 when he walked with Traditional Owners over 150 kilometres from the South Australian border to Uluru.
“It was one of my life's great experiences and it made me want to sensitively share this cultural phenomenon with anyone prepared to tackle the desert and immerse themselves in Anangu history. This walk has been a decade in development, but 500 million years in the making.”
Brett Godfrey, Co-Owner Tasmanian Walking Company
This extraordinary walk has been developed in close collaboration with Anangu Traditional Owners, the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Board of Management, Anangu Steering Committee and Parks Australia to ensure it respects and honours the cultural and environmental significance of the area.
“My people have lived on this land for more than 30,000 years and we welcome visitors from all over the world. This walk invites them to slow down, to look beyond the physical beauty of our home and to take time to learn about the customs that are so important to us. We hope that over five days, they will better understand our stories and our art, respect our traditions and land management practices and help us protect the environment. By walking in our footsteps and on our trails, they will also come to see that our ancient culture is still very much alive today.”
Tapaya Edwards, Chair of the Anangu Steering Committee
Heath Garratt, Head of Values and Standards at Tasmanian Walking Company, has been an integral part of the journey:
"Our initial submission responded to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park’s call for "Big Ideas" for tourism opportunities. Considering the cultural significance of walking, the Park's unique values, and collaboration with the local community, we proposed a multi-day in-park walking experience. After concept acceptance, we spent extensive time visiting and engaging, presenting and connecting with the local Anangu community.
“Over the past years we’ve engaged with the Central Land Council, Parks Australia, the Park Board of Management and local Park management and staff, and a raft of external consultants such as archaeologists, anthropologists, ecologists, architects, engineers, surveyors, consultant builders, employment specialists, relevant tourism industry experts, local tourism operators and many more."
The Uluru-Kata Tjuta Signature Walk Experience
The Uluru-Kata Tjuta Signature Walk is unique in many ways, offering the first time that visitors can stay overnight inside the World-Heritage listed National Park, in premium, environmentally sensitive accommodation. This itinerary deeply integrates immersive cultural elements including creative workshops and education around environment and traditional land management practices. Guests will connect with nature and enjoy moments such as dinner under star-lit desert skies.
“Stunning desert scenery, rich cultural history delivered by Anangu, unique habitats of a diverse array of wildlife, the amazing geological features of Kata Tjuta and Uluru - all brought together by a multi-day guided walking experience. Along with our staples - our friendly, knowledgeable staff, the comforts of our eco-camps and private lodge at the end of the day, meals crafted by culinary experts featuring local ingredients and a focus on an immersive and enriching journey for our guests.”

Making a Positive Impact
Tasmanian Walking Company has collaboratively designed eco-sensitive accommodations and implemented sustainable practices to minimise environmental impact while maximising guests' experiences. Collaborating with the community and environmental partners throughout the development of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Signature Walk has been invaluable, and their ongoing involvement in its operations is an integral part of the experience.
“Allowing the journey to develop and relationships with Anangu to guide the evolution of this experience. Just spending time on country watching the ever-changing geological wonders of Kata Tjuta and Uluru would be reward enough, but engagement with Anangu is what really brings it to life and gives the experience meaning.”
As we begin operations, one of our main focuses will be ensuring we continuously involve local community and Traditional Owners in the experience as well as creating as many benefits as we can into Anangu community.
“We have a plan that works towards having high levels of Aboriginal input into developing the experience and then ensuring that the local Anangu community has a sense of ownership and an opportunity to tell their stories to our guests. It will take patience, a balanced approach and clarity of purpose. While we have a strong focus on the Aboriginal elements of our guest journey, we won’t be losing sight of all the other elements of what makes our experiences memorable: support throughout the day, a sense of adventure, amazing food and hospitality, hot showers, comfy beds and more.”
