Ocean Sunrises & Barefoot Beaches: A Journey Along the Bay of Fires with Po Yan
We recently hosted Hong Kong-based content creator and travel writer Po Yan on the Bay of Fires Signature Walk. We asked the social media sensation about the five day experience exploring Tasmania's sparkling east coast...
What were your standout moments from the journey (one or two that truly stayed with you)?
It’s hard to choose because every day had its own special moments. But one that really stayed with me was hiking barefoot along the white sandy coastline, feeling the sea breeze, stepping through the water and soft sand, and taking in the endless ocean, orange rock formations, and sunset. It was truly mesmerizing.
What surprised you most about the experience?
What surprised me the most was that hiking could actually feel quite luxurious. After a full day of walking and feeling completely exhausted, being able to shower and rest in a beautiful place, enjoy great food and wine, and chat with the group, it felt really special and enjoyable.
Was there a meal that really stood out - and what was it like dining with those ocean views?
My favorite meals were the breakfasts on Day 3 and Day 4 at the lodge. Sunlight streamed through the windows into the wooden cabin, and in the distance you could slowly watch the sunrise and ocean. Paired with a hearty breakfast, it created such a warm and comforting feeling, pure happiness.
Did you gain any insights or new appreciation for the landscape or its stories?
This experience made me appreciate how beautiful and pure the Earth must have been in its earliest days - and how rare it is to still find places that remain so untouched. It made me treasure everything in front of me even more.
How did the experience leave you feeling at the end of the walk?
It was my first time hiking with a 10kg backpack, and there were definitely moments of fatigue along the way. But whenever I looked up and saw the views ahead, I felt that everything was worth it. Especially at the end of each day, returning to camp, I felt proud of the effort I had put in - and excited to grow stronger and keep exploring the world.
