All aboard! Tasmanian Walking Company is wrapping up the Wineglass Bay Signature Walk, as the grand ketch Lady Eugenie retires from service with us.

Since 2014, we’ve hosted almost 2,000 guests aboard this well-appointed vessel, that has provided volumes of comfort and contemplation from Fortescue Bay to the glittering shallows of Freycinet.

Highlights of the Journey

Here are some aspects of the adventure we think you'll really like:
Small groups and cosy cabins: Lady Eugenie sleeps 8 in style, meaning our sailing parties are compact.
Sea cliffs, built relics, and blue gum forests: Away from the vessel, we'll scale jagged dolerite edges of the Tasman Peninsula, taking in the famed Totem Pole, and explore spaces of diverse flora plus Maria Island's former convict site, Darlington.
Fizz and freshly shucked: No trip to the east coast is complete without a local tipple. We'll sip on sparkling wine and slurp Pacific oysters along secluded shores.
Marsupials and frolicking mammals: We are bound to be close to unhurried wombats at Maria and leaping dolphins the whole way up the coast, also traced by European explorers Baudin and Tasman. Lots more fauna to find inland, also.

More than a boat ride

This experience is unique for its layers: from ship to shore to summit, the Wineglass Bay Walk offers various vistas and special moments on and off the waves. Kevin walked with us in January 2024 and left us this note:

"Sailing and wandering on the lands of the Muwinina, Palawa and Toorenomairremener people. The connection to land and sea was fantastic but I will remember most the connection to each other. Highlights included summitting Bear Hill and walking onto the Wineglass Bay beach before swimming in its crystal clear and somewhat chilly water. Our guide Bill fitted in with our group perfectly and was relaxed and professional. Our skipper Hugo was always in control with a relaxed professionalism and clearly loved being on the water. Sam provided the most amazing food that accompanied our Clover Hill sparkling wine. A great way to finish our walk each day.”

What to Expect

A few points to prepare for:

Shoe swap: the decks of Lady Eugenie require soft soles, so we always swap our hiking boots for clear-bottomed shoes before climbing aboard.
Mother Nature knows best: our schedule adapts to quick-changing coastal weather to ensure your comfort, so the itinerary may change but we will endeavour to deliver all inclusions. We are often told that this fluidity adds to the fun of this experience.
Not all deck lazing and beach combing: This experience includes some challenging ascents such as Maria Island's Bishop and Clerk and Freycinet's Mount Graham that require a moderate level of fitness.
Fancy feasting: Guests will dine on gastronomical delights sourced locally where possible, all masterfully prepared by our team in Lady Eugenie's galley kitchen.
From tender to ketch: roll up those trousers as we hop in and out of a tender that transports us between shore and the main vessel.
