Tasmanian Walking Company in the News
It's been a big season of storytelling for Tasmanian Walking Company, with several major media outlets showcasing our guided walks across Australia—from the wild Larapinta to the glowing Bay of Fires. Here's a round-up of recent coverage that captures the spirit, scenery, and soul of our walks.
Australia’s Wildest Hike - Get Lost Magazine
“As the final kilometres stretch behind us and we draw closer to the hum of everyday life, I carry more than just sore legs and red dust in my boots. I carry a deeper understanding of this ancient land, of the people who have cared for it for millennia. I came here expecting a hike. I didn’t expect to find my father out here. But in the silence, in the stone and water and sky, he was never far away.”
In Get Lost Magazine, journalist Kylie McLaughlin steps off-grid on what she calls "Australia’s wildest hike"—our Larapinta Signature Walk. Kylie paints a vivid picture of walking through the raw, ochre-hued heart of the West MacDonnell Ranges and explains how the experience offered a surprising, deeply personal connection.
Inside the New Luxury Lodgings on the Larapinta - Traveller / SMH
In The Australian, seasoned writer Tom Gilling reports on his six-day experience walking the Larapinta Trail, highlighting not only the extreme conditions but also the new luxury options available through Tasmanian Walking Company. With a sharp eye for detail, Gilling explores how we’ve made this iconic desert trek more accessible without compromising on authenticity.
📖 “Going alone can be a hard slog,” he writes. “But luxury walking makes it less arduous and more awe-inspiring.”

Indulgent Walk on the Wild Side - Sunday Examiner
In a beautifully detailed feature in the Busselton Mail, Michael Turtle dives deep into our Bay of Fires Long Weekend, capturing the perfect balance between immersion in the wild and little luxuries that make all the difference. From foot baths and sparkling wine to chocolate cake and sea-eagle sightings, this is slow travel at its finest. Turtle highlights how the walk flows through a mosaic of landscapes—beaches, dunes, rivers, forests—all while being gently guided and generously fed.

Bay of Fires: The Walk to Do When You’re Not Sure You Can Hike - Australian Traveller
Also in Traveller, first-time hiker, Lara Picone discovers how Tasmanian Walking Company’s Bay of Fires Long Weekend is the perfect entry point to multi-day walking. The piece highlights the accessible pace, stunning coastal scenery, and indulgent lodge comforts—like foot baths, kayaking, and gourmet meals—making it ideal for those unsure about their hiking ability.
Fiery Friendships
Kris Abbey was not expecting to make such great friends on our Bay of Fires Signature Walk, but that the journalist did, and has written about it for Spa and Wellness. Kris details each day of the adventure along turquoise coastlines, points out the great guides (or, chefs, storytellers, and naturalists), and highlights the lodge as unexpectedly luxurious. Phone numbers were swapped at the trip’s conclusion, something Kris suggests rarely experiences on other guided tours. “Our group represented various ages, nationalities, and backgrounds, yet the shared experience of physical challenge, natural beauty, and evening conversations created a camaraderie that felt like old friendship” writes Kris.
