Discover Your Next Walking Holiday on Kangaroo Island with Tasmanian Walking Company
Thinking about a Kangaroo Island holiday? Not surprising. Travel writers have described it as “Australia’s Galápagos”, where nature, wildlife and rugged coastline combine into one unforgettable trip. It’s an undiscovered gem and, with the Kangaroo Island Signature Walk, this is your invitation to explore one of Australia’s most extraordinary wild places, with plenty of comfort.
We’ve created a four-day guided walking experience along the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail that reveals the island’s rugged beauty by day and welcomes you back each night to fine food, local wine and the comfort of a restored heritage lodge. It’s a Kangaroo Island walk that immerses in nature and adventure but adds that little hint of indulgence, wild in spirit, but refined in every detail.

Why Kangaroo Island Is One of Australia’s Great Holiday Destinations
As we said, Kangaroo Island is often called Australia’s Galápagos, a place where wildlife thrives, coastlines remain untouched, and every moment connects you to nature.
Here, kangaroos graze across open plains, koalas rest in eucalyptus canopies, echidnas wander through the undergrowth and sea lions bask on quiet beaches. Birdlife is everywhere, from scarlet robins and wattlebirds to graceful ospreys soaring over the cliffs.
The landscapes are just as dramatic: the sculpted granite of Remarkable Rocks, the towering sea cliffs of Cape du Couedic, and the tranquil bays of Flinders Chase National Park. Every view feels cinematic.
And then, of course, there’s the food. Kangaroo Island’s local produce is legendary: Ligurian honey, fresh seafood, artisan cheeses, boutique wines and small-batch gins. Each evening of your walk, these flavours become part of the journey.

The Kangaroo Island Signature Walk
This four day guided walk on Kangaroo Island is for travellers who want to connect deeply with nature while enjoying exceptional comfort.
Heritage Accommodation
Your base is the historic Cape du Couedic Lightkeeper Cottages, standing sentinel over the southern cliffs since 1907. Lovingly restored, these twin-share cottages feature modern bathrooms, soft linen and a sense of timeless seclusion. It’s the perfect retreat to return to after a day on the trail.
Gourmet Island Dining
Evenings are unforgettable. You’ll enjoy chef-prepared meals featuring local produce, from fresh oysters and wild-caught fish to native herbs and vegetables grown nearby. Paired with Kangaroo Island wines, craft beers and gin, each dinner celebrates the island’s rich culinary landscape.
Light Daypacks, Deep Connection
Each morning, you’ll walk with just a light daypack as your guides share stories of geology, bushfire regeneration and the unique ecosystems of this wild coast. Every step brings a new discovery, from towering cliffs to quiet freshwater pools.

A Day-by-Day Journey Through Kangaroo Island
Day 1: Adelaide → Cape du Couedic (~3 hours walking)
Travel from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island by ferry, then into Flinders Chase National Park. Your first walk passes through forest reborn after the 2020 bushfires, a living symbol of resilience. That night: a fireside feast of local produce under the stars.
Day 2: Snake Lagoon → Cape du Couedic (7-8 hours walking)
Follow the Rocky River and Maupertuis Bay, tracing the limestone cliffs and shipwreck stories of the coast. Return to a soothing foot spa, canapés and dinner paired with local wine.
Day 3: Remarkable Rocks → Cape Younghusband + Weirs Cove (6-7 hours walking)
Walk past the brilliant orange-lichen granite of Remarkable Rocks, following the wild southern coastline. At Weirs Cove, enjoy gin and oysters at sunset before a seafood dinner at your lodge. Wildlife is abundant, wallabies, echidnas, sea eagles and more.
Day 4: Hanson Bay → Kelly Hill Caves (~4 hours walking)
Finish your journey through native forest and limestone country, then celebrate with a drink at False Cape Vineyard before returning to Adelaide.
