Meet the Guides Taking the Tas Walking Co Spirit Across the Globe
Get to know a few of the friendly faces who might walk beside you on your next international expedition.
At Tasmanian Walking Company, our guides are the heart and soul of every journey. Their passion for wild places, deep knowledge of landscapes, and warm hospitality have helped us earn a reputation as Australia's leading ecotourism operator.
Now, through our global hiking partners Guided by Nature, we’re taking that same expertise and spirit to the world’s greatest walking trails. Many of the friendly faces you know from our award-winning Australian walks are now guiding internationally — blending the best of Tasmanian Walking Company values with incredible new destinations.
Here are just a few of the extraordinary guides sharing their skills with guests around the globe:

Eduardo — Overland Track and Patagonia
You’ll usually find Eduardo, or "Edo," leading walkers across Tasmania’s iconic Overland Track, but twice a year he swaps Tasmania’s wilderness for the soaring landscapes of Patagonia — one of the incredible regions he used to guide in before joining Tasmanian Walking Company.
Originally from South America, Edo brings a rich blend of local insight, global perspective, and Tas Walking Co experience to every Guided by Nature journey. Fluent in both English and Spanish, he effortlessly connects guests with the landscapes and cultures they explore.
Reflecting on what makes our walks special, Edo shares:
"The combination of exploring those amazing places during the day and relaxing during the night in comfortable accommodations and gourmet meals makes a huge difference. But I’d say what really makes walking with us so special is how passionate our team is about the outdoors and the way we share all this knowledge with our guests."
Whether in Tasmania or Patagonia, Edo’s passion for wild places and sharing meaningful experiences shines through in every step. Follow along with Edo's journeys on his Instagram: @duardo86

Michael — Kangaroo Island and the Italian Dolomites
For most of the year, you’ll find Michael guiding guests along the stunning coastlines and rugged landscapes of Kangaroo Island. But when Guided by Nature launched its inaugural season in the Italian Dolomites, Michael was the perfect fit to lead our guests there too — reconnecting with his Italian roots.
Michael’s passion for flora and fauna is infectious, and his deep connection to both the Australian and Italian landscapes create a unique and enriching experience for walkers. Whether exploring the wilds of Kangaroo Island or the dramatic beauty of the Dolomites, Michael brings his signature care, knowledge, and energy to every journey.
In 2024, we were lucky enough to follow Michael around Kangaroo Island with a couple of cameras. See what he has to say about guiding on Kangaroo Island in this video: Watch here.

Hamish — Overland Track and Japan's Ancient Salt Road
You may already know Hamish from our Instagram — not only is he a brilliant guide, but also a talented photographer. Most often found guiding on the Overland Track, Hamish’s adventurous spirit made him the perfect choice to help lead our Ancient Salt Road walk in Japan.
No stranger to Japan, Hamish has exhibited his photography there and is a passionate skier of Japan’s incredible winters. His love for the country, combined with his 5 years’ of Tas Walking Co guiding experience, made him a natural fit to help bring this special journey to life alongside local guide Paul in 2024.

Joh — Tasmania and Morocco's Sahara & Atlas Mountains
Most recently, we sent our Safety, Community & Environment Manager, Joh, to experience our Sahara Desert and Atlas Mountains Hiking Journey in Morocco firsthand. With nine years’ experience with us at Tas Walking Co, Joh brought an invaluable perspective to the journey — helping to weave our commitment to caring for sensitive landscapes and communities into the Guided by Nature experience.
Reflecting on the journey, Joh said:
"Walking through villages in the High Atlas Mountains, seeing how people lived and farmed, crossing valleys in front of Toubkal (the tallest mountain in the High Atlas at nearly 4200m), eating delicious food, and then travelling to the Sahara — where it rained for only the second time in 10 years! We witnessed breathtaking sand and lightning storms and saw how lush the Middle Atlas was. It was unforgettable."
